Guaratiba Mangrove Boat Tour and Beachside Barbecue
Guaratiba sits at the western edge of Rio de Janeiro, roughly an hour from the South Zone and a world away from it. The protected mangroves here are among the most important coastal ecosystems in the state and almost no international visitor sees them.
A private boat carries the group through the waterways and out to a secluded beach where a full Brazilian barbecue has been set up: premium cuts or a seafood menu depending on the group’s preference, tropical fruit, and caipirinhas made on the spot. The Soul of Vidigal: A Guided Cultural Tour
Vidigal occupies the hillside between Leblon and São Conrado and holds some of the most spectacular views in Rio de Janeiro. It is also one of the city’s most culturally active communities, with a generation of artists, musicians and cooks who have built something here that has nothing to do with the way the neighbourhood is portrayed abroad.
A bilingual local guide leads the group through the streets and up to the viewpoints looking out over Leblon, Ipanema and the Atlantic. The visit includes privileged access to the studio of a resident artist, who shows work in progress and talks about the scene here. It ends with a home cooked feijoada and caipirinhas.
